The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has accused some APC leaders in Akwa Ibom of secretly working for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. According to Akpabio, these leaders are “shouting Asiwaju in the day and PDP in the night,” referring to the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, by his nickname. Akpabio made these comments while speaking to the leadership of 250 presidential support groups for Tinubu in the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state. He accused these disloyal APC leaders of working to destabilize the party.

Akpabio described the support groups as genuine party loyalists and supporters, saying he was encouraged by their genuineness and commitment to the success of the party. He added that these groups represent the real grassroots politicians and anyone who does not embrace them is not a politician. He also urged the groups to formally invite Tinubu to visit them in a town hall setting before a rally.

According to Akpabio, there are some leaders who rush to Abuja to claim credit for the party’s success, which was actually achieved by people at the grassroots. He referred to these leaders as “Abuja politicians.” He also gave an example of a Deputy Director in the Campaign Office who has taken the APC’s governorship candidate to court and has seven cases against him, destabilizing the APC in Akwa Ibom for the benefit of the PDP. Akpabio said these are the kind of people that the party is expected to work with.
