The Surulere 1 state constituency has re-elected Desmond Elliott according to the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This declaration was made on Sunday by INEC Returning Officer, Dr Bolajoko Dixon-Ogbechi a staff of the University of Lagos, at the Surulere Local Government Collation Centre in Lagos.
According to her, APC candidate, Desmond Elliot, emerged winner with 15,357 votes, while Mr Benjamin Olasunkanmi, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 3,628 votes.

”That Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner and is returned elected.”
Returning Officer, Dr. Dixon-Ogbechi said that the total number of registered voters in the constituency was 134,939, and only 20,340 voters were accredited to participate in the election exercise, out of this number, 973 votes were rejected and 19,357 votes were valid.
“The total number of votes cast is 20330 while the results of six units at Igbaja/Stadium with RA number 06 were cancelled due to over voting.
” So, the total number of votes cancelled in the affected areas were 4091.”
