Recently, there was a report that the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has appointed senator, Elisha Abbo, the “slapping senator” as one of its patrons.
Since this report became public, notable members of the guild and Nigerians, in general, have expressed their displeasure at the development, on March 16th for instance, Kate Henshaw expressed her doubts about the processes that led to such an appointment
“Still waiting on your response @emekarollas …..I will reach out to you again like I did yesterday and I would like you to kindly explain what thought processes led to this! The Actors Guild of Nigeria deserves better and this is definitely not it!!!”

Hilda Dokubo, a member of the guild and a veteran actress expressed her displeasure in a video shared on her IG page, according to her, she wondered why Abbo who was caught on camera physically assaulting a nursing mother in a sex toy shop, could be made a patron of the guild,
“abuser of women a Patron of Actors Guild of Nigeria is an unpardonable abuse”.
She insisted that the idea was a calculated attempt to rubbish our societal values.
However, the president of the guild while responding to a question during an interview with PlusTV, said that Senator Abbo the embattled senator had already apologized for his action and wondered why his appointment as a patron of the guild was ruffling so many feathers, he also registered his own displeasure at the manner and way in which Hilda Dokubo took to express her concern, according to him, rather than taking matters to social media, there were other appropriate ways to address such matters.
